Miss Selfridge SS14 Range Preview

Miss Selfridge SS14
As we closed 2013 we reviewed the clothing trends that were predicted to make it big in the forthcoming 2014. London Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week were unashamedly trending towards the feminine, for Spring Summer 2014, with florals, pastels and feminine lace being paraded down the catwalk. Pastels were confidently on show by Alexander Wang who opened NYFW with pale pinks and blues while Gucci followed in the palest peach and Prabal Gurung went all Queen mother in shades of lavender. Mary Katrantzou showed off a collection of swing dresses, in all over splash prints, while Matthew Williamson showcased chili reds, tangerine oranges and canary yellows. Amongst the colour explosion he added diamantes and delicate lace.

Miss Selfridge have taken these trends and turned them into a collection that is ready for you to wear from February 2014. Let’s start with the pastel trend which Miss Selfridge explore in ice cream colours in grown up tailoring and clean, but girly, shapes. Lightweight jackets in yellow, pink and powder blue offer the perfect transition piece and a great way to make the leap from winter to spring. Slip dresses, and camisoles, keep the trend feminine, in shades of mints and lilacs, while the addition of delicate lace echoes Matthew Williamson, himself, when he predicted lace as a big trend of the season.

During the Fashion Weeks, splash brights and bold tangerine colours inspired and Miss Selfridge haven’t disappointed with their offering of sharp canary yellows, oranges and pinks. Look out for their striking yellow two-piece that shows off the key skirt shape of spring. Furthermore, in a nod to Mary Katratzou’s splash brights, you can expect to see bright botanical florals and exclusive, in house, design prints featuring on coordinates and dresses. You can also witness Miss Selfridge mix it up with cut outs and new shape necklines, what more would you expect from a cutting edge, youthful name?

Finally a trend, which appears every year, has to the Sports Luxe, which this year is a collision of formal and casual. Shapes, such as the jogger, skort and wide sleeve cropped tee give casual dressing a slick new direction. Eveningwear has been kept clean, in particular the orange drop waist dress and the cerise ruffle neck dress while the tailored black jumpsuit with matching tux jacket adds sophisticated grown up glamour to the trend.
